About Gustav Friis

Born in Århus, 1980. Graduated with a Master's Degree in Urban Planning and Management Engineering at the University of Aalborg in 2006. Spent four months at the University of Sheffield, England in 2005. Worked as a student worker at the research project Town, Road and Landscape at the University of Aalborg from 2003 to 2005.


Project Manager at the City of Aalborg since August 2006. Primarily working with international projects on Sustainable Transport. Read more about this in the Work section.

My Workplace, the Technical and Environmental Department, section of Traffic and Roads in the City of Aalborg. The Municipality of Aalborg has an area of 1100 square kilometres and a population of almost 200,000 inhabitants. The municipality is responsible for 1900 kilometres of roads.


The European project MIDAS is my main task at work. The project is within the STEER programme and funded by the Intelligent Energy Europe. MIDAS is about achieving sustainable mobility using soft measures. In Aalborg a marketing strategy and a large scale campaign is launched in September 2007 to encourage people to use more sustainable means of transport.



As part of the MIDAS project I worked as co-ordinator on the facelifting of http://www.aalborg-trafikinfo.dk and the creation of http://AtilBnu.dk in the same design. The web-pages were launched the 31st of August 2007.





The University of Aalborg has its main campus in the south eastern part of the City, but it also have departments in the city centre. The university has approximately 14,000 students.


The research project Town, Road and Landscape was launched in 2003 and ongoing until 2005. Aalborg University was in collaboration with KVL (The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University) and the Danish Road Directorate. The Research budget 4.4 million DKK, 50% sponsored by the Realdania Foundation.

PEAS - The Planning and Environmental Assosiation of Students. PEAS is an organisation of students at Plan & Miljø, Environmental Management, Urban Planning and Management and Sustainable Energy Planning and Management at Aalborg University. The organisation has existed since the sommer of 2004.





The Danish Society of Engineers, IDA, is a modern professional association for engineers and other specialist groups working within engineering and technology – at IDA, we call them technical knowledge workers. IDA has approximately 61,000 members. (from www.ida.dk)
